CHÂTEAU VOLTAIRE

Thierry Gillier, your brother Arnaud recently joined as president. What’s that like?

We started out together, learned the business together.

Thierry gillier biography of barack obama They wanted to keep it minimal, but with a vast art collection. Here, art reigns! Gillian has always been a fan of art, so soon enough he began his art collection. He has a particular love for minimalistic and monochromatic design that began in NYC. She was born in Sweden and we can find some Scandinavian minimalism designs here.

Now, bringing him back feels natural. It’s a family business, and having him here is a balance I trust. He handles the business side, while I bring the creative vision. It works.

Family-owned brands are rare these days.

Biography of barack obama Zadig and Voltaire is a French ready-to-wear clothing brand, which opened its first store in Paris in His family owned one of the largest knit factories in France, which provided the perfect foundation for a young Gillier to experiment with luxury fabrics. Unlike his forebears, who adhered to a more sober aesthetic, Gillier hoped to bring dynamism to fashion that was inspired by the rebellious styles of Patti Smith and Marianne Faithfull. She asked to join Gillier in growing his brand, she joined his team and eventually became his partner and wife. Together, the Gilliers designed pieces that have since become staples, the go-to items for the modern Parisian cool girl and those who sought to emulate that aesthetic.

Has anyone tried to buy Zadig & Voltaire?

Of course, but I’m not interested in selling. Zadig is something I built, and there’s so much left to do. It’s amazing to see it reach the streets around the world.

Where do you manufacture?

Mostly in France, but we also work with skilled factories in Italy, Europe, India, and China for different specialities.

Building quality takes time, and that’s what I’m after.

Rock and roll seems less relevant these days.

  • What’s the Zadig & Voltaire vibe now?

The first sweater I made had Elvis on it, but it wasn’t about Elvis — it was about freedom. Zadig’s vibe is about staying current, understanding people’s moods, and evolving. It’s less about rock-and-roll style and more about keeping that creative edge.

And that’s why you started Zadig & Voltaire?

I don’t know where this journey will take me; it’s like writing a story as you go.

    I’m always learning, always evolving.

Sometimes, I see someone on the street wearing a Zadig T-shirt, and I realize what we’re doing resonates. You have to stay open to what’s next.

Stores or online — where’s most of the business now?

About 20% online, but it’s global. Zadig resonates in so many places — Spain, Miami, South America, Mexico, Colombia, and especially the U.S.

    It’s been incredible to watch.

Do you still design every piece?

Yes. I started this from scratch — no big funding, just drive and creativity. Building from nothing keeps you grounded, but it’s a constant challenge.

You have kids. Are they involved?

My daughter, who’s 24, worked with me for a while.

  • She’s more of an artist. My son’s younger, only 13, so we’ll see. For now, it’s about deepening the brand, making it solid for the future.

You’ve got an art collection too?

Yes, collecting’s always been part of who I am. I have a good eye and a lot of curiosity. And Zadig, Voltaire’s story, reminds me that life isn’t straightforward.

Before leaving his mark on fashion, Gillier was an artist. Also he was a fan of furniture and objects so collecting arts became a passion. His love for the minimalist and monochromatic trend began when he lived in New York. After working at Yves Saint Laurent, he created his own brand with the name of his favorite book, Zadig de Voltaire.

It’s about finding your path, just like Zadig, who ends up content with only bread and sunshine. We’re all a bit like that, right?

    Thank you Thierry.
